FAQ

PDF to Text

What is OCR, and when does a PDF need it?
OCR (optical character recognition) reads the shapes of letters in an image and turns them into real text. A PDF needs OCR when it was produced by a scanner or camera: the page looks like text but contains only a picture, so nothing can be selected or copied.
Why does the extracted text come out in the wrong order?
Multi-column layouts, tables, and sidebars are stored as separate text blocks, and extraction follows the order in the file rather than the visual reading order. Extracting one column or region at a time gives cleaner results.
How accurate is text extraction from a scan?
Accuracy depends on the scan. Sharp, straight, 300 DPI scans of printed text are recognised very reliably. Low resolution, skewed pages, handwriting, and heavy background noise all reduce accuracy.

Most free tools make money by processing and analyzing the contents of your files. We don't. DocsMe was built with local document processing as a first-class feature, not an afterthought.
